The District requires that all volunteers must attend a yearly training. If you plan to participate in class parties, field trips and/or volunteer in a classroom, you
MUST attend one volunteer training. An initial volunteer training will be held at each school site. After the initial volunteer training, sites will hold group trainings throughout the year. Individual volunteer trainings may be provided on a case by case basis.
The following is a list of school activities that require volunteer clearance and those activities that do not:
CLEARANCE REQUIRED
- Volunteering in the classroom as a tutor, running off papers, assisting with special programs
- Attending field trips
- Classroom parties that are not part of seasonal holiday programs/performances
- Eating breakfast and/or lunch in the school cafeteria
CLEARANCE NOT REQUIRED - OPEN TO PUBLIC EVENTS
- Attending a school program or related performances
- Carnivals, sporting events, family nights
The State of California requires that all volunteers submit a tuberculosis (TB) skin test. This documentation can be acquired by your health care professional. If you submitted either last year, the District has it on file. However, if you are new in the District, and you have a current TB skin test (within 3 years), please bring a copy to your training. This will speed up your volunteer clearance process. If you do not have one, please visit your health care provider.
Once you have attended training, completed the registration form, cleared a Meagan’s Law check (processed by the District), and have a TB document on file, you will be ready to volunteer. All cleared volunteers will receive an email from the Raptor system (volunteer database) once cleared. All volunteers must check in and check out at the school office.
If you are interested in chaperoning a field trip there may be an additional step to be cleared as a field trip volunteer. It is important to have all volunteer requirements (training class, TB certificate, Megan’s Law check) completed at least 30 days prior to field trip departure. This will allow processing time for Live Scan fingerprints and receipt of the results prior to trip departure.
The District acknowledges your important roles as parents and concerned community members. I look forward to working with you as volunteers in our Central Union School District classrooms.
