clipartEighth grade students, from Central Union and Island School Districts, joined together to talk about positive character and learned about high school life during the Central Union Elementary School District (CUESD) 11th annual Character Counts conference. On March 14, 2014, two hundred well-dressed and excited 8th graders entered the Lemoore High School Events Center to kick off the annual Character Counts Conference hosted by CUESD. It was a day filled with fun activities, character building exercises, and a campus tour as 8th grade students from four different schools came together to converse about character traits and decision-making results. Facilitators Paula Lehn, CEO of FAST Federal Credit Union, and recently retired-California Highway Patrol officer, Jerry Pierce conducted the morning activities filled with discussions on personal values, ethical dilemmas, and how some decisions are more difficult to make than others.

Lemoore High School students served as table leaders, guiding students through group activities and providing them with an overview of what to expect at Lemoore High School next year. At noon, students were provided lunch by CUESD staff and were given a chance to socialize with their peers about what they had just learned. They also had the privilege to watch the LHS JROTC drill team perform one of their award winning routines.

After lunch, students took a campus tour visiting a variety of classrooms and programs that are available at the high school. High school students and staff showcased some examples of possible elective classes. High School students shared information about high school activities, clubs, and events that, these soon to be freshman, will be able to participate in during their years at LHS.
It was a wonderful day and Central Union School District wishes all these fine ladies and gentlemen the very best in their high school career.
